Is There Anything Softer Than Cashmere?
As Fraas prepares to celebrate its 145th anniversary, we wanted to spotlight this incredible brand. Founded in Germany’s Vogtland region in 1880, Fraas is a family-run business that grew from a rich heritage of skilled textile craftsmanship. Long before industrialization, expert weavers in the area created textiles on hand looms, passing down this knowledge through generations.
Today, Fraas marries heritage with innovation, and one of their proudest creations is Cashmink!
What Is Cashmink?
Cashmink is a unique, hypoallergenic fiber that is softer and warmer than traditional wool, closely resembling the luxurious feel of cashmere. Cashmink, created with 99% recycled resources, exemplifies Fraas’s commitment to ethical production and environmental consciousness by keeping production local to Germany.

One of the secrets behind Cashmink’s remarkable softness is a centuries-old technique involving natural thistles. The brushing process uses carefully selected thistle heads to gently fluff the fibers of each Cashmink scarf, creating an ultra-soft texture that mimics cashmere. This traditional method, once used by European textile artisans, adds a special “fluff” to the fabric and enhances its coziness!
What’s remarkable is that Fraas remains a family-run business, now in its fifth generation, the current leadership is dedicated to preserving the brand’s rich heritage while embracing modern innovations and sustainable practices. This long-standing family involvement ensures that the values of quality and craftsmanship continue to thrive.
Whether you’re draping it over your shoulders or wearing it as a cozy accessory, Fraas scarves are a testament to the enduring legacy of craftsmanship and a step towards a more sustainable future in fashion.
Best,
Aileen
